Storm Damage Repair Near Me

Total Foundation & Roofing repairs hail and wind damage to roofs in Kerrville, Texas and across Kerr County. We inspect the full roof, photograph and document what we find for your insurance claim, and carry out the repair or restoration afterwards. We also serve Fredericksburg and Comfort.

Hail reaches Kerr County less often than it does the I-35 corridor, but that cuts both ways. A roof here can go years without an event and then lose most of its remaining service life in twenty minutes. Wind is the steadier problem — exposed ridgelines and hilltop lots take more of it than the valley floor, and wind damage is frequently invisible from the ground because a shingle that has been lifted and dropped back looks intact while its seal is broken.

Kerr County sits inside the county warning area of the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio forecast office, which covers 33 South Central Texas counties from New Braunfels.

We are a licensed roofing contractor based in Kerrville, at 317 Sidney Baker Street. If water is coming in right now, that is emergency roof repair — call (830) 792-4070 and we will tarp it first.

Types of Storm Damage We Repair

Hail damage roof repair

Hail bruises shingles, knocks granules loose and cracks the mat underneath. The damage that matters is often not the damage you can see — a bruised shingle looks fine from the ground but has lost its structural integrity and will fail early. On metal roofs hail dents panels, which is cosmetic, but it also damages flashing and vents, which is not. We inspect the full roof, mark and photograph every strike, and record the density per square, which is what an adjuster assesses.

Wind damage roof repair

Wind lifts and creases shingles along ridges and eaves where uplift is highest. A shingle that has been lifted and set back down looks intact and is not — the seal is broken and it will leak in the next driving rain. We check the seal by hand rather than by eye. Wind also displaces ridge caps, tears flashing and lifts metal roofing panels at the eave.

Falling limbs and debris

Live oak and cypress across the older parts of Kerrville drop heavy limbs in high wind. Impact damage punctures decking and opens seams well beyond the visible strike point, so the repair area is usually larger than it first appears.

Wind-driven rain

Rain driven sideways gets past flashing and into valleys that shed normal rainfall without difficulty. Where water has got in, we use roof leak detection — thermal imaging and moisture mapping — to trace the entry point rather than guessing from the stain.

Storm restoration and replacement

Where damage is confined we carry out targeted roof repair. Where hail has taken the life out of a whole roof plane, restoration means roof replacement — in asphalt shingle or metal — and we will tell you honestly which one your roof needs.

Signs Your Roof May Have Storm Damage

After hail or high wind in Kerrville, roof damage is often not visible from the ground. A roof can look untouched and still have lost years of service life. These are the seven signs worth a hail damage roof inspection:

  • Missing shingles. The clearest sign, and the one that needs attention soonest — exposed underlayment does not last.
  • Bruised shingles. Hail leaves soft spots that are difficult to see and easy to feel. They crack later, and the roof fails years earlier than it should. This is the damage most commonly missed by a homeowner and most commonly found by an inspection.
  • Granule loss. An unusual amount of granules in gutters or below downspouts after a storm means the shingles took an impact. Granules are the roof’s UV protection, and losing them accelerates everything else.
  • Flashing damage. Storms bend and loosen flashing at chimneys, vents and valleys. This causes leaks even when the shingle field looks perfectly intact — and it is the most common source of a post-storm leak.
  • Leaks after storms. Water spots, dripping or attic moisture following a storm point to damage that will not fix itself. If water is coming in now, that is emergency roof repair.
  • Dented vents and gutters. Metal components show hail strikes clearly. If the vents are dented, the shingles took the same hits — this is often the evidence that gets a claim taken seriously.
  • Ceiling stains. Brown spots, bubbling paint or staining on ceilings and upper walls mean water has already been in the structure for a while.

If you have seen any of these after hail or high wind, book an inspection before the damage compounds. Most insurers have a time limit on storm claims, so waiting can cost you the claim as well as the roof. We will tell you whether you need targeted roof repair, full restoration, or nothing at all.

Storm damage insurance claims

A storm claim is easier to make when the damage is documented properly, and harder when it is not. We give Kerrville property owners the evidence side of that process. The claim itself is between you and your insurer — we do not negotiate on your behalf, and you should be wary of a contractor who says they will.

Inspection documentation. A full roof inspection identifying storm-related damage, with an explanation of what we found and what it means. That is what tells you whether you are looking at a repair or a replacement.

Photographs for the adjuster. Clear images of damaged shingles, flashing, vents, gutters and any other affected areas. We can be on site during the adjuster’s inspection so nothing gets overlooked, which on a hail claim frequently makes a material difference.

An itemized scope of work. Where repairs or roof replacement are needed, a written scope setting out what the work involves. That gives you and the adjuster the same document to talk about.

After hail and wind events. Storm damage rarely stops at the shingles. Hail and wind affect flashing, underlayment, vents and drainage too, and a claim that only covers the visible shingle damage often leaves the owner short. A full inspection catches the rest.

Emergency protection first. If the storm has left the roof open, emergency roof repair comes before anything else — we tarp or dry-seal to stop further damage while the claim is assessed. Insurers generally expect you to take reasonable steps to prevent additional loss.

If your roof has taken hail or high wind, book an inspection promptly. We will document what we find and explain the options, whether that is repair, restoration or replacement.

Why Choose Total Foundation & Roofing

  • We are here after the storm and next year. Our office is on Sidney Baker Street in Kerrville. Storm markets attract crews who arrive after a hail event and are gone before the warranty matters — we are not one of them.
  • Eighteen years in the Texas Hill Country. Owner Daniel Sowell has worked on roofs here since 2008, through the storms that produce these calls.
  • Documentation as standard. Photographs, measurements and an itemized scope for every storm inspection, and we can attend the adjuster’s visit.
  • We will tell you if there is no claim. Not every roof that has seen hail has claimable damage. We would rather say so than take you through a process that ends in a denial.
  • Licensed and insured, in-house crews. No subcontracted labor, including in the weeks after a storm when that is exactly when it happens.
  • Roofing, foundation and concrete under one company. We also handle foundation repair and concrete leveling— useful when a storm has affected more than the roof.
  • Most storm damage is worse on a neglected roof. Scheduled roof maintenance means a hail event hits a roof in good condition rather than one already halfway through failing.

✦ What roofing customers say

Roofing customers across Google, Yelp and BBB most often say Total Foundation & Roofing returns calls and shows up when promised, sometimes after other roofers never called back. Reviewers describe honest roof inspections, including advice to repair a roof instead of replacing it when that costs less, and hail and wind replacements finished in a day or two with careful cleanup. Daniel, Tyler and the crews are praised for professional work on shingle, metal and standing seam roofs, and several homeowners mention help with insurance claims and hiring the company again for later roofs.

Very responsive to leaking roof when others would not even return a phone call. Replaced entire roof previously installed by inferior contractor. Work crew was professional, timely, responsive to requests and maintained a clean job site. Would definitely hire again.

What a breath of fresh air it is to have somebody return a call and set up an appointment and then to have them show! It was a pleasure doing business with Dan and Total F & R. He came, he gave full explanations, did the work, and was very nice to deal with. And promptly, may I add. We will use him for any future roofing needs we have and will pass his name on to others. Thank you Dan!

The incredible downpours experienced in Kerrville last week were the source of a very peculiar leak that developed in our roof. Over three days of nearly continuous rain that saw well over a foot accumulate in our rain gauge, this leak was active for less…

…than 10 minutes and delivered much less than a cup of water. In response to our call, Tyler performed a thorough inspection of the relevant portion of the roof, quickly eliminating possibilities such as missing or loose shingles and damaged vents. It was the short duration of the leak that led him to the problem: a seal that was more than good enough most of the time, but that was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of water involved. A complex joint had been sealed with grout when the roof was installed, but no special care had been taken to make sure the grout was well spread out over the surfaces on either side of the joint. Although years of exposure to the Hill Country climate had degraded the seal somewhat, it was still good enough to handle normal rainfalls, but this storm was far from normal. Tyler quickly applied new grout and made sure it was well engaged with the surfaces next to the joint. This is typical of our experiences with Tyler and Total Foundation and Roofing. If your roof needs to be replaced, he will do it, efficiently and economically. But if he can repair your roof more economically he will do that rather than replace it. He did that for us on a previous home. After a hail event we asked three roofers to view the damage and recommend a course of action. The other two said "replace the roof". Tyler told us there were a dozen or so discrete spots that need repairs, but that could be done for much less than the cost of replacement. He got the job. You can rely on Tyler to provide the best, most economical solution for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I have hail damage on my roof?

From the ground, usually you cannot. The clearest indirect evidence is dents on metal components — vents, gutters, flashing and downspouts. If those show strikes, the shingles took the same hits. On the roof itself, hail damage looks like dark bruised spots where granules have been knocked away, and the shingle feels soft under thumb pressure. Bruising is the damage that matters, and it is also the damage most commonly missed.

It depends on your policy, and it is shorter than most people assume — many Texas policies set a limit measured in months rather than years from the date of the storm. Check your policy wording or ask your agent for the specific deadline. The practical advice is to have the roof inspected soon after any significant hail or wind event, even if you are not sure you will claim, because a dated inspection report is far easier to act on later than a memory of a storm.

Sudden storm damage from hail, wind or falling debris is covered by most homeowners policies. Gradual wear, age and neglect generally are not, which is where claims are most often denied — an adjuster looking at a roof that has visibly not been maintained in a decade will attribute the damage to age. Your deductible applies, and on some Texas policies wind and hail carry a separate, higher deductible than the rest of the policy. Worth checking before you file.

You are entitled to choose your own contractor. Insurer-preferred lists exist for the insurer’s convenience and are not a judgement about quality. What matters more is whether the contractor is local, licensed, insured and still going to be here when a warranty question comes up in three years — which after a hail event is a genuine consideration, because storm markets attract out-of-town crews who work a season and leave.

Quickly, because we dispatch from Kerrville rather than driving in from San Antonio. After a widespread hail event everyone in the county calls at once, so the honest answer is that we prioritise active leaks first — if water is coming in, say so when you call and that moves you up. If the roof is damaged but closed, an inspection within a few days is normal.

Yes. We cover Fredericksburg and Gillespie County, Comfort and western Kendall County, and Kerr County including Ingram, Center Point, Hunt and Harper. Storms rarely respect county lines, and a hail cell that crosses Kerr County often clips Gillespie too.
